Tips for Improving Your Skincare
From dermal fillers to avoiding harmful habits, here’s how to have radiant skin all summer long:
Don’t Touch Your Face With Dirty Hands
In addition to being bad for your overall health, touching your face with unclean hands can damage your skin. When you touch your face with your hands, whatever bacteria, dirt, and other debris transfers to your pores. Minimize aggravating your skin by always cleaning your hands (and your phone), and avoid touching your face until you do so.
Don’t Pick at Imperfections on Your Face
Though it may seem easier to pop a pimple or scratch at a blemish — this doesn’t make the problem go away. When you pick at your acne, you’re releasing bacteria and oil, which then spread across your face. Additionally, popping a pimple with your nails or skincare tool can cause permanent damage, including dark spots and scarring.
Don’t Pull at Your Skin
If you wear makeup, you may have heard that you should never pull on your eyes when putting on eyeshadow or eyeliner. This is because it can stretch out your skin and lead to premature wrinkles.
Don’t Exfoliate With Harmful Ingredients
While calluses on your heels may respond to tougher treatments such as pumice stones, your face is much more sensitive. To protect your natural biome, consider avoiding products that contain:
- Sugar
- Salt
- Ground apricot pits
- Formaldehyde
- Synthetic fragrances
- Parabens
- Mineral Oil
- Talc
These products can damage your skin, cause torn capillaries, irritation, and can lead to enlarged pore size. Instead, consider using a toner made with alpha-hydroxy acids.

Don’t Neglect Your Skincare
From needing a gentle cleanser, regular facials, or dermal fillers, everyone’s face is different. It’s important to follow a skincare routine that works for you, to protect your skin through every stage of life.

Summertime Laser Hair Removal
With shaving and waxing, the smooth finish is short-lived as hair quickly returns with unpleasant stubble. Laser hair removal, on the other hand, offers more of a long-term solution that will leave you to relax in the summer sun.
How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Laser hair removal works quickly and efficiently by exposing hair follicles to a laser beam. The heat from the beam singes the follicles, which destroys the hair and its root and shuts down the production of new hair growth. Destroying the root prevents the treated strand of hair from returning.
The process is effective because the darker pigment of hair absorbs a majority of the heat energy, leaving the surrounding tissue unharmed. Examples of treatment areas include:
Back
Chest
Shoulders
Neck
Face - including the upper lip and chin
Bikini area
Other benefits of laser hair removal include:
Cost-effective: Laser hair removal is a great long-term solution for hair growth. It is less expensive than costly waxing packages.
Precision: Laser hair removal targets hair grown below the skin by damaging its follicles.
Effective: Many people can achieve great results in as little as 8 sessions.
No wait time: There is no need to wait for hair growth before treatment like you would between waxing appointments.
Are the Results Permanent?
Human hair grows in cycles, so during treatment, some hair is beneath the surface. This means more than one treatment is necessary to treat an area. In some cases treatment permanently prevents future hair growth. But for others treatment provides permanent hair reduction. It’s common to require maintenance at least once a year. This is because changes in hormones and weight can cause new follicles to develop. Maintenance is needed to laser the newly developed follicles.
Will the Treatment Work for My Skin Tone and Hair Color?
Laser hair removal works on just about every type of skin. There are different types of lasers for different types of skin tones and hair colors. Red, blonde, and gray hair are the most difficult hair colors to treat. Generally, the darker the hair the better the results, but the treatment can still work on all colors.
Is it Painful?
The procedure does slightly sting. It’s similar to a rubber band snap and the sensation lasts only for as long as it takes the laser to target each follicle. The larger the treatment area, the more stings you’ll feel. You may have slightly irritated skin following treatment, but any pain should subside after your session is complete.
How Do I Prepare for a Treatment?
There are several things you can do to prepare for your laser hair removal session to ensure you get the best results. Take the time to do the following before your treatments begin:
- Shave the area.
- Stop waxing or tweezing.
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.
